Cuba is experiencing a major economic transition resulting in great opportunities for ICT start-ups on the one hand. On the other hand Cuban society is facing problems regarding the management of scarce resources resulting in major challenges related to e.g. logistics and transportation in cities, as well as the usage of energy and water resources. These major challenges will serve as use cases. To create the conditions to tackle these problems, the project will develop an ecosystem supporting the Smart city paradigm that builds on the powerful datacentres, High-Performance Computing networks, and state-of-the-art artificial intelligence expertise available through previous IUC and Network projects developed in Cuba. The ecosystem will provide services to ICT start-ups in the form of flexible cloud infrastructure and services including data analysis. The three use cases will demonstrate the genericity and effectiveness of the framework and as such contribute to societal well-being.
