General

EC2022SIN342A101 01/09/2022 - 31/08/2024 The electric transmission system plays a crucial role to foster a sustainable energy transition. However, the construction of new transmission infrastructure is a big issue, not only in Ecuador, but also globally. As such, the current Transmission Network Expansion Planning (TNEP) decision-making process, a weakness in today’s system planning, needs to be improved. Therefore, having appropriate decision-making tools that can support stakeholder`s interaction, can help to speed up the development process of transmission infrastructure which supports the rapid growth of renewable energy demand while protecting the environment and not affecting the livelihoods of agriculture communities in Ecuador. The outcome of the project aims at improving the decision-making processes for transmission expansion planning by providing optimization models, considering socio-environmental, technical, and economical constraints. The project involves a multistakeholder and multidisciplinary decision-making approach to influence appropriate policies and practices to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.
