SI-Application of precision dairy management practices to improve efficiency of small-holder dairy farms in Peru

PE2024TEA559A101 01/09/2024 - 31/08/2029 Small dairy farmers, who make up 90% of Peru's total dairy producers, face a significant threat to sustainability. The project aims to improve production efficiency and ensure that they are not left behind in the pursuit of development. To do so, the project aims specifically (i) to co-create a digital platform for automated data collection and analysis for making strategic decisions suited to the average characteristics of small dairy farms and (ii) to strengthen local partners’ capacities to develop and implement technological solutions based on Internet of Things (IoT) concepts and mechanisms for designing, prototyping, coding and testing software to improve livestock management. As a result of this project, we expect an increased resilience and income for Peruvian small-scale farmers, while also positioning Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina (UNALM) and the Instituto Nacional de Innovación Agraria (INIA) at the forefront of sustainable dairy production and innovation in the country thanks to the support of KU Leuven in teaching and research actions.
