This project focuses on training in artistic research skills and artistic research pedagogy for faculty of the Philippine Women’s University, School of Fine Arts & Design (PWU-SFAD). The objective is that these faculty will then deploy the acquired knowledge to develop an artistic research training program for local artists & designers. Artistic research (AR) as an academic discipline is at the moment absent in the curriculum of PWU-SFAD. In order to be able to continue offering first class education that creates opportunities for Filipino artists to become agents of change and to keep PWU-SFAD at level with international standards, they need staff training in AR. AR combines the strengths of both the arts and the sciences to generate new knowledge and understanding. Through AR, artists explore new ideas, challenge existing theories, and push the boundaries of their own creativity. They can also collaborate with scientists, researchers, and other artists to develop new techniques, technologies, and approaches. AR has the potential to engage diverse audiences and spark meaningful conversations about social, cultural, and political issues. PWU-SFAD needs well trained faculty so they can widen the perspectives of local talents and new generations of artists & designers. They need to become experts in AR in order to empower artists as carriers of research and knowledge, and thus invigorate the arts sector and creative industries in the Philippines. PWU-SFAD aims at becoming leading experts in the field of arts education based on AR. Therefore they established a professional connection with St Lucas School of Arts Antwerp, part of KdG. Within this collaboration we focus on these two elements: training of faculty to be able to upskill future generations of makers, designers and artists through AR training of artists and designers to become cultural researchers and producers and enabling them to critically reflect on their own practice and their place in society
