General

BE2022ICP215A101 01/09/2022 - 31/08/2027 Stemming from the recognition that space is an increasingly limited resource and thus needs to be utilized effectively, the Master of Human Settlements provides insights into human settlement design in an era of rising social inequalities, global warming and rapid change. This one year intensive program tackles the multi-faceted challenges and opportunities of contemporary urbanisation patterns, from multi-disciplinary and multi-scalar perspectives. Architecture, urbanism, landscape architecture and spatial planning are the core disciplines underpinning the program. The MaHS thrives from its truly international body of students and alumni, as well as the faculty’s long-standing research expertise in contexts worldwide. The trans-local network supporting it, builds on multiple collaborations between KU Leuven and the various South partners dating from before phase 1 of the ICP. The ICP consolidation project is built on a two-track system for regional hub development rooted in four key components: delocalized design studio modules; regional urbanism seminars; critical regional urbanism cases and regional alumni networks.
