General

ZA2024TEA567A101 01/09/2024 - 31/08/2029 This project contributes to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) of adolescent by improving communication on SRH, gender and sexuality between primary caregivers (parents and guardians) and their early adolescent children. It contextualizes and adapts the content of an intervention developed in Uganda to the urban Western Cape context in South Africa. Community engagement, participatory research and a systems approach underpin the adaptation development and uptake strategy of the intervention. The intervention, which will be piloted and evaluated, supports caregivers to better communicate with early adolescents, provide them with information about SRH and enable them to make safe sexual choices. A multi-institutional partnership will link collaborators and promotors at South African, Belgian and Ugandan universities in order to conduct the research and develop an African Academic Network on Adolescent SRH.
