SI-REVALUATION OF ANDEAN ANCESTRAL KNOWLEDGE ON MEDICINAL HERBS THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENT OF A PHYTOTHERAPEUTIC PRODUCT

EC2023SIN380A105 01/09/2023 - 31/08/2025 The project “Revaluation of andean ancestral knowledge on medicinal herbs through the development of a phytotherapeutic product” seeks the generation of scientific knowledge previous to the formulation of natural products, which means to have the support and evaluation according to the scientific determination of bioactivities and safeness of medicinal plants. At the same time, it proposes the pre-formulation of a phytotherapeutic product as a therapeutic option for the treatment of inflammatory related minor conditions. Also this propossal pretends to rescue and value the ancestral knowledge regarding medicinal plants. The project pretends the pre-formulation at laboratory level of a therapeutic syrup from the most active fraction of the Desmodium molliculum plant, related with its anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory potential and the absence of toxicity in living beings. At the same time, micropropagation and cultivation in small plots of Desmodium molliculum will be developed to protect the native flora allowing a standardised cultivation of the plant for the future small scale production of the phytotherapeutic product. The regulatory government entities will monitor the process in order to assess the possible future expansion of the proposed project.
