Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), in particular cardiovascular, diabetes, cancer and chronic respiratory conditions account for 75% of all deaths globally according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). Low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) face the highest share of burden from premature mortality related to NCDs. In the Ethiopian context, according to WHO, NCDs account for 39% of all deaths with 18.3% risk of dying prematurely from NCDs. The UN SDG 3.4 aims at reducing by one third premature mortality from NCDs. There are proven cost-effective strategies for NCDs control. In this regard, evidence-based informed academia, health professionals and health sector leaders play crucial role in igniting change in non-communicable diseases care. These important stakeholders need to be well equipped with proven concepts in chronic illness prevention and care. The ITP training will build the capacity of trainees on appraising the burden, determinants and proven prevention and control strategies for NCDs control from national, regional and global perspectives. Trainees will serve as agents of change in their respective institutions.
