The access to and awareness of palliative care in Ethiopia is very low while the need for palliative care is high due to high prevalence of cancer and HIV. Furthermore, Ethiopia faces multiple challenges to meet the WHO’s goals for achieving the palliative care in 2030 due to the fragile health care delivery system, lack of community based palliative care model, the lack of palliative care awareness among staff members, and inadequate research on palliative care. This project strives to improve the overall awareness and competences (knowledge, skills, attitudes) in healthcare students and professionals in a professional environment (Jimma University and Jimma University Medical Center(JUMC)) and in the community. An educational programme will be developed as well as a local and (inter)national network regarding holistic interdisciplinary palliative care. This project will reinforce the relationship between JUMC and the community, leading towards higher awareness and accessibility of holistic interdisciplinary palliative care.
