ED-A research training programme on Machine Learning for climate change mitigation in buildings

BE2022ITP236A103 01/01/2023 - 31/12/2025 The main aim of this ITP project is to establish a research training programme on the use of Machine Learning (ML) to mitigate climate change in buildings. It is well anticipated that ML could help to fight against climate change and can be applied to many sectors affected by climate changes, e.g. design more energy-efficient buildings, improve power storage and optimise renewable energy, etc. Nowadays, the level of urbanization in developing countries is growing very fast. Buildings are in general vulnerable to climate change and the research on this topic is very limited in the literature so far. The mitigation of climate change in buildings should be taken into consideration by reducing GreenHouse Gas (GHG) emissions. In this research training programme, we propose to train 27 researchers and professionals, through short visits, in how to use ML and computer simulations to reduce GHG emissions in buildings. To achieve this goal, we will train the researchers in the application of ML techniques to modelling data on energy consumption and optimizing energy use in smart buildings. Although this research training programme is designed for Vietnamese researchers as Vietnam is among the most affected countries by global climate change, it will be open for participants from all the 17 project partner countries of VLIRUOS.
