SI-Sharing Insights in Statistical Thinking. A Roadmap towards Integrated Data Science Approaches in Research.

EC2022TEA507A103 01/09/2022 - 31/08/2027 Statistics is an essential part of scientific and experimental thinking and highly needed by researchers. Its complexity, however, has increased substantially in the last few decades and many researchers feel uncomfortable – and rightly so - to use advanced methods that they do not understand properly. It is therefore essential that both students and researchers are taught the foundations of statistical thinking. The objective of this project is threefold. A first major objective is to develop appropriate course material based on Local Open Online Courses (LOOC). A second major objective is to empower statisticians at their institutions in the South; they will develop their own LOOCs, creating ownership. A third major objective is to improve the statistical knowledge of the researcher and the science (e.g. medical) student. With a sound foundation in statistics, they will be able to tackle and solve more complex statistical problems.
