SI-Archival (Re)connections. Cultural heritage and community empowerment in Limete, Kinshasa

CD2024TEA544A101 01/09/2024 - 31/08/2029 Cultural heritage is increasingly recognized as a crucial resource for communities to deepen their knowledge of and connection to their past and cultural identity. From this vision, Archival (Re)connections aspires to connect archives in Belgium and DR Congo, document local forms of (im)material heritage, and enhance the public accessibility of this (re)collected and (re)connected heritage to researchers, students and the broader public in Limete, Kinshasa. To this end, it will establish a partnership between Belgian en Congolese partners and foster reciprocal capacity building in the fields of heritage management, research and education on cultural heritage, and public participation. It will develop and implement practices of sustainable preservation, valorization, shared governance, and popular dissemination of archival collections preserved outside the DRC as well as locally rooted forms of material and immaterial heritage and cultural-historical knowledge.
