Project of University Development Cooperation - Own Initiative 2005 - A strategy for reviving the vital breadbasket of the Democratic

Overall development objective: To improve food security and human nutrition of rural populations in the two provinces while sustaining the natural resource bases. Overall academic objective: To strengthen human and equipment capital through training and services provided by the project.

Developmental: To arrest resource degradation and enhance food security and human nutrition through widespread adoption of sustainable resource management technologies for cassava-based systems based on improved varieties and system diversification. Academic: To build local stakeholders' capacity to apply and disseminate improved agricultural technologies with a special focus on strengthening research-for-development capacity at the target universities through degree-related training and improved laboratory capacity.
