General

To strengthen the capacity of the Tropical and Infectious diseases center at BPKIHS to accumulate and translate evidence for VL and dengue control policy in Nepal The capacity of TIDC (Tropical and Infectious Disease Centre) will be strengthened by training the personnel up to PhD and upgrading the facilities of the molecular biology laboratory. Monitoring of effectiveness of VL drugs will be continued along with detection for parasite drug resistance, to guide rational drug policies in the control programme. Collection and collation of data to document VL incidence in endemic and non endemic region will be done to document VL elimination targets. Network for surveillance of dengue infection in hospitals in eastern Nepal will be established. The skills and knowledge of the medical doctors working in rural hospitals will be enhanced through short term training and feasibility of introducing tele-medicine in the district hospitals will be explored.
