General
Natural resources have an improved contribution to sustainable development
The AfricaMuseum´s cooperation programme contributes to the integration of research-driven strategies into policies and daily practices at local, national and global levels, resulting in effective and sustainable management of natural resources including geo-resources, forest and freshwater systems
Results
Specific objective 5.1: expertise on geo-resources contributes to sustainable resource management
Geologists are equipped through academic training and research support to address societal challenges related to critical geo-resources and sustainable resource exploitation and management. Through knowledge dissemination, conferences and the creation of accessible databases sustainable mineral exploration and utilization is further promoted. /
Specific objective 5.2: better knowledge of congo basin forest ecosystem services (most importantly biodiversity, carbon storage and carbon uptake) leads to more effective conservation.
Scientific data disparities regarding carbon cycling, biodiversity and ecosystem function in the congo basin are bridged through strengthened and expanded research capacity. This knowledge is disseminated locally and globally and leads to an improved understanding of the importance of and effective conservation of the congo basin's ecosystem services. /
Specific objective 5.3 freshwater resources are better understood and managed.
Given the importance of freshwater resources, a healthy and well managed freshwater ecosystem supports sustainable development.
