Specific objective 1.1: crucial african freshwater fisheries are better documented and understood for improved conservation and sustainable management strategies. Access to comprehensive scientific data on African freshwater and brackish water fishes is provided through the FishBase for Africa platform. The platform functions as an active knowledge hub where data further supports decision-makers and researchers working on informed conservation strategies. Additionally, through capacity strengthening and awareness raising activities, knowledge for improved fisheries management and biodiversity conservation is disseminated and expertise is strengthened. /
Specific objective 1.2: local expertise in fish diversity research within the congo basin is strengthened through capacity strengthening and collaborative partnerships. Local capacity in fish diversity research within the Congo Basin is further strengthened through a focus on integrative approaches that combine morphological and genetic data. Promising candidates from prior Master/DEA studies are supported to pursue a PhD. Collaborations with regional and international partners further enables knowledge exchange and institutional capacity strengthening. /
Specific objective 1.3: the importance of true fly families (diptera) in the afrotropical region’s biodiversity hotspots is recognized and through awareness raising incorporated in conservation strategies. The diversity of Diptera in Afrotropical biodiversity hotspots is studied for better understanding of their taxonomy, distribution data and crucial role in pollination32. Through training, workshops, and outreach efforts, the aim is to improve conservation strategies, raise awareness about the significance of flies in sustaining ecosystems, and influence stakeholders and the public toward their conservation
