General

Strengthen the resilience of targeted communities in 34 villages in Kayonza, Ngoma and Rwamagana districts to multiple and multifaceted risks, through the holistic and inclusive “model village” approach, and promote a strong national society. BRC-Fl has a unique combination of 4 niche expertise areas (First Aid (FA), Blood Banking (BLOOD), WASH and Disaster Preparedness (DP)), each contributing to tackling a set of (non-)communicable, maternal and neonatal diseases or injuries. These expertise areas are complementary to each other and allow our program to address the overall health burden in our target area, resulting in reduced morbidity and mortality, through increased community resilience. The program focusses on three intervention levels to reach this ultimate goal. First, we’ll focus on prevention and mitigation of health hazards. Second, when the hazard has occurred, BRC-Fl will have empowered communities to take care of themselves and others through community care, and third, the RRCS and the national blood service will be reinforced in their capacity to effectively prepare for and respond to health hazards.
