Climate Finance - Yangambi centre of excellence on climate and biodiversity (phase 2)

When developing a portfolio for climate action resource allocation, particular attention should be given to the protection and restoration of ecosystems and biodiversity. Achieving the objectives of both the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) requires policymakers to have access to robust scientific evidence and reliable data. Through this project, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) seeks to strengthen its collaboration with a range of Congolese and Belgian partners in the Yangambi Man and Biosphere Reserve (Yangambi MAB). The initiative aims to facilitate scientific research in the Congo Basin while respecting and enhancing the role of local communities within the MAB and supporting their sustainable socio-economic development.

The activities implemented in the Yangambi Biosphere Reserve (YBR) by national, local, and international partners are aligned and strengthened with regard to institutional governance, scientific research, capacity building, awareness-raising, and local sustainable development.
