Improve motor, language and social outcomes and quality of life for children (0-12), particularly the most vulnerable including children with disabilities or at risk of developmental delay. Humanity & Inclusion (HI) is currently intervening in Uganda in development and humanitarian settings providing services in 5 different sectors of intervention: Livelihood, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support, Physical and Functional Rehabilitation, Inclusive Education and Inclusive Health. The aim is to improve access and quality of services to most vulnerable people including persons with disabilities and promote a more inclusive and harmonious society. Due to lack of adapted care in the early years of childhood, many children develop disabilities and developmental delays which impact them during the rest of their lives. The focus of the proposed intervention is to pilot a comprehensive multi-sectoral integrated framework to enhance, from preconception to adolescence, the right of every child to survive and thrive by improving the capacity of the different actors to identify, prevent and respond to threats to children's health and well-being. Through strong involvement with local authorities of Terego District, multiple stakeholders in the area and community-based structures, the project aims to improve the capacities of parents/caregivers, community members, and health centre services to mainstream and coordinate childcare to reduce and early identify risks and threats and respond efficiently and decisively. The comprehensive approach includes healthy pregnancy, safe delivery, positive parenting, early identification and access to health services. This includes specialised services (physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy as well as mental health and psychosocial support) and access to social services through case management and referral system in line with national policies and plans. The project will optimise the development and quality of life for children (0-15), particularly the most vulnerable including children with disabilities or at risk of developmental delay.
