General

The program’s aims at increasing and diversifying incomes for small-scale producers, increasing women participation in the livestock value chains (LVC), and reducing poverty for vulnerable groups by integrating them into the LVCs and micro-credit schemes. In achieving the outcome, the program shall use the Human Rights based approach by targeting vulnerable groups and fostering stronger social integration for assimilation of these groups into the formal economy. The program will focus on increasing the productivity of the meat value chain in Karamoja sub-region primarily targeting the enhancement of animal health, sustainable livestock productivity and increased inclusive market access for producer groups (livestock associations and cooperatives). Efforts to improve animal health will involve both district veterinary departments and private actors such as Community Animal Health Workers (CAHW) and private vets.. In Karamoja region, VSF-B will work with livestock farmer associations and livestock marketing associations to increase and diversify meat production to market quality products in- and outside Karamoja, primarily through the use of digital tools. To guarantee financial inclusion for participation in the value chains for all producers, VSLA groups and SACCO’s will be formed/strengthened and linked to digital tools, banks and LMAs (Karamoja). Furthermore, an enabling environment for LVC optimalization will be promoted in collaboration with other Belgian NGAs (TRIAS, B.D & J4W) and stakeholders, with actions targeting agro-ecology practices, sustainable and peaceful exploitation of natural resources and research and advocacy to promote favorable policy contexts. Enhanced and diversified incomes for small and medium-sized producers and vulnerable households through integration into sustainable and profitable livestock value chains
