General

The project aims to promote resilient socio ecological systems and wellbeing for indigenous peoples and local communities (IPLC) who live in and depend on tropical forests and freshwater in the three landscapes of the Amazon and Chocó in Ecuador, enabling them to recover and secure ecosystem services for future generations. They will be more aware of the importance and value of their territory and feel co-responsible for its management and protection, which strengthens governance and in which women and men participate equally in decision-making. We strive that all this will be developed in partnership with a civil society that values its livelihoods and natural resources. Local educational processes (with children and youth) and reflection on the importance of natural resource conservation will have been strengthened as well as the strengthening of local community governance mechanisms as an enabling condition that will allow greater community control of territories through processes of social justice and equity, leaving no-one behind. Moreover, local communities in these landscapes will have sustainable livelihoods, with clear links to fair markets and adequate internal distribution mechanisms for the benefits generated based on deforestation-free production systems. Finally, they will have more and better forest and water conservation mechanisms in these landscapes to contribute to the long-term provision of ecosystem services and healthy habitat for biodiversity.
