In the Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Dodoma and Ruvuma Regions, adults and children affected by eye health conditions benefit from comprehensive and quality eye health care and visually impaired & blind girls and boys from 14 districts take part in inclusive and special needs education, including vocational training. LFTW is committed to improving the quality of life for people with a visual impairment. With this programme LFTW targets the following outcome in Tanzania: Changes in the field of Eye Care The outcome improves the delivery of comprehensive eye health services in terms of quantity and quality. National facilities for training of eye care staff are improved at tertiary hospitals CCBRT and KCMC. Provision of eye care services is improved at the following tertiary hospitals: CCBRT in Dar es Salaam, the zonal Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dodoma and three regional referral hospitals (St. Francis Referral Hospital & Morogoro Regional Hospital in Morogoro and St. Joseph Mission Hospital in Ruvuma). The eye health workforce is improved in terms of quality and quantity. Supply systems are better organized and eye care services are integrated at the different levels of the pyramid. The outcome aims to increase the use of eye care services. Community health workers raise awareness and people take better charge of their own eye health. Early detection of eye care conditions is ensured and sustainable school screening methods are applied. The outcome also enhances eye health-related governance and management of regional partner eye health facilities. Changes in the field of Inclusive and Special Needs Education The outcome aims to expand inclusive education and medical & social services for children with a visual impairment. Itinerant teachers are trained and support visually impaired children in 14 districts of Morogoro, Dodoma and Dar es Salaam.
