General

Strengthened trade union partners in South-Africa, Burundi, Burkina Faso and Senegal have improved social dialogue (SDG 16.7), as a right and a governance instrument for all precarious workers in the formal and informal economy, in contribution to a just transition from the informal to the formal economy (ILO Recommendation 204, SDG 8.3, 8.5 & 8.8), with attention to gender and age equality (SDG 5.1 & 5.2), and the environment (SDG 13.2). The outcome of BIS-MSI aims to improve social dialogue to obtain decent work in Africa, contributing to: - strengthening Trade Union partner organisations (in South-Africa, Burundi, Burkina Faso and Senegal) to use social dialogue as a right in itself and a good governance instrument, to defend & extend workers’ rights and monitor the implementation & compliance with labour legislation, - decrease the precariousness of workers to gain better and safer working conditions, - a just transition from the informal to formal economy, as foreseen by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Recommendation 204, placing precarious workers at the core of our outcome and making sure that in line with the UN Agenda 2030 principles, no worker is left behind! The outcome is directed towards capacity building and policy influencing, not only on a national level but also taking the regional and international level into account.
