REEL Mahita is a governmental cooperation project in the Agriculture, forestry, fishing sector in Niger Republic, funded by Enabel. This project is part of the Nigerien-Belgian bilateral cooperation program for the period 2022-2026, signed on March 14, 2022, with a total budget of 50 million Euros. The focus of this intervention is on agricultural and livestock development and youth employment, aligning with the Nigerien government's strategy for 2022-2026. The project aims to enhance the resilience and income of the Nigerien population through sustainable development of agricultural value chains, entrepreneurship, and job creation for young people. It also includes an approach titled "do no harm," which is sensitive to conflicts and conflict mitigation measures. The project also includes interventions aimed at reducing food insecurity, increasing access to entrepreneurship, employment, health, and education for targeted groups, and strengthening governance of sectors. Enabel, the implementing agency, engages in applying the triple nexus approach in situations requiring humanitarian aid. The project was initiated due to the challenging circumstances Niger faces, despite its potential for significant change. Despite good political will, the country's transformative changes are difficult to implement. This project presents an opportunity to address these challenges and contribute to the sustainable development of Niger.
