Fac’Art, développement de l’entrepreneuriat culturel en RDC

The Fac'Art project, focused on developing cultural entrepreneurship in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is being implemented within the Business. Business Support services and institutions sector. Plateforme Contemporaine, one of Kinshasa's principal cultural operators, does not produce artistic works itself but supports creation through production aid and activities that reinforce and diversify artistic creation. These projects are not solely event-based but aim for long-term operation. Additionally, the platform stimulates reflection and discussion on contemporary art in Kinshasa and DRC, organizes activities to broaden and diversify the audience, and seeks to develop artistic and structural networks. Since 2019, actions promoting cultural entrepreneurship led by Plateforme Contemporaine at several university campuses in Kinshasa within the Facultes et Arts (Fac'Arts) project aim to consolidate the cultural and artistic offering within the academic environment. These actions have contributed to strengthening the capacities of around twenty students beneficiaries of the cultural entrepreneurship initiation program, and have facilitated debates among cultural operators, other professional bodies, and civil society members about potential new synergies between different societal sectors and the solutions they could provide in response to issues hindering the emergence of a professional cultural sector. Future cultural entrepreneurs will encounter challenges on their path and will be called upon to strategically navigate them in the near future. Among these challenges, one can identify: low social and cultural integration within the country, very low consumption of Congolese artistic products by Congolese people, absence of mechanisms for framing and promoting young talents in the arts and culture sector, insufficient social security for Congolese artists, absence of a cultural industry in general and artistic in particular that takes into account the artistic value chain, and insufficiency of strategies and structures for promoting Congolese arts. The COVID-19 pandemic highlights the importance of human resources as a valuable national asset in which it is essential to invest. Kinshasa, like other provinces, is rich in young artistic, academic, entrepreneurial, and engaged talents who carry within them the promise of progress they aspire to contribute to. The concern of Plateforme Contemporaine is to ensure that the numerous talents this country has do not slip through our fingers and get lost in the wind.
