AEI-AGRO-Sine-Saloum', is a collaboration between Senegal and Belgium aimed at developing a modern, competitive, and sustainable agricultural infrastructure in the Sine-Saloum region. The project is part of the broader Agriculture, forestry, fishing sector (31xxx) and focuses on industrial crops/export crops within the agriculture and livestock sector. The initiative is rooted in the convergence of priorities between Senegal and Belgium, as outlined in the new Senegal-Belgium Portfolio 2019-2023. This portfolio was constructed based on an analysis of points of convergence between Senegal's priorities and those of Belgian cooperation for development. Key documents guiding the project include the 'Plan Senegal Emergent Phase II' (PSE II 2019-2023), various sectoral strategic plans, the national policy on territorial management and development, sectoral policy letters, among others. The new Belgian Minister's directions, particularly in supporting entrepreneurial agriculture, stimulating private sector growth as a development lever, promoting an approach based on human rights (especially sexual and reproductive health rights), digitalization, and green economy innovation, have influenced the strategic priorities of the new Senegal-Belgium Portfolio for the 2019-2023 period. The project also involves synergistic engagement of Belgian cooperation instruments, including private sector and public institutions (peer2peer). The project aims to establish a competitive and sustainable agricultural infrastructure in the Sine-Saloum region, strengthening micro, small, and medium enterprises (MPME) within prioritized economic sectors, and improving their economic, social, and environmental performance. It also seeks to enhance access for women, adolescents, and young people to quality reproductive health services, with a specific focus on reducing maternal mortality, promoting family planning, and preventing sexual and gender-based violence through a multisectoral and multi-actor approach. The project's performance is aligned with social and economic opportunities within the Sine Saloum region, targeting key ministries such as the Ministry of Industrial Development (MDIPMI) and the Ministry of Health and Social Action (MSAS).
