General

Karamoja Livestock Enhancement Program is designed so as to capitalise on achievements of the KLDP III project, expertise gained through program implementation since 2008, recommendations of evaluations and field monitoring visits and rapid assessments carried out during routine field visits. In addition to consolidating the achievements of the KLDP III, the project KLEP will also augment initiatives started under the climate change adaptation project, which is implemented in synergy with 4 other Belgian NGOs in Uganda. The project will be implemented in Karamoja, the eastern region of Uganda, targeting the four districts of Kaabong, Moroto, Nakapiripirit and Kapchorwa. Implementation in Kapchorwa and Nakapiripirit districts will be in synergy with VECO East-Africa NGO. The projects specific objective (SO) is : To improve food and economic security of agro-pastoralist communities through optimization of livestock production and livelihoods diversification in eastern Uganda. Four results will contribute to the achievements of the SO and these include; (i) Sustainable Community Animal Health services realized in area of intervention, (ii) Increased incomes for target communities through support to micro-credit, (iii) Enhanced sustainable Natural resources management, and (iv) improved advocacy on issues affecting pastoralists and increased resilience for target communities through support to production systems and market access.
