General

Bijdrage tot de armoedebestrijding via een dalende morbiditeit en mortaliteit t.g.v. Lepra en Tuberculose zodat ze geen probleem meer vormen voor de volksgezondheid. Damiaan Action aims to develop an effective and sustainable TB detection system by strengthening microscopy services through the recruitment of lab technicians in selected microscopy centres where the post of lab technician has been vacant for a long time, this as a temporary measure to deal with the most urgent shortages. Laboratories and physicians will be trained, sputum assembly centres will be set up in places where there is no laboratory within a reasonable distance, local NGOs within civil society community will be identified and recruited to provide health information on TB, refer TB suspects and follow up on outpatient treatment of MDR-TB patients. Rural Medical Practitioners will be involved on an experimental basis in the detection, referral and treatment of TB patients and diagnostic services for MDR-TB will be developed through the DFIT Reference Laboratory in Dharbanga.

Results

Development of an effective TB detection system for new sputum positive TB patients in 15 districts and development of MDR-TB (Multiple Drug Resistance TB) diagnostic services in 6 districts in Bihar
