General

The program 2017 - 2021 is based on (i) the current activities, which are designed using the IWRM (Integrated Water Resources Management) principles in existing and new locations within the Mpanga Catchment in Western Uganda and (ii) an upscale of similar interventions in new areas within the Northern part of Lake Albert Catchment. The intervention region and type of activities are partially chosen on demand of the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) to remain active within the Mpanga catchment and to start up similar activities in the Upper Lake Albert catchment (proposed because emerging challenges due to oil and gas exploration). This program will be executed with 3 local NGO partners (JESE, NRDI, HEWASA). The principles of implementation remain generally the same: (i) The decentralized and deconcentrated local government structures remain a key stakeholder in planning and implementation and (ii) a major emphasis is given to capacity support to the local stakeholders. At the same time more efforts will be put into advocacy and sector influencing at a National level. The beneficiaries are mainly: (i) decentralized governance structures (Local Governments, Catchment Management Organizations and Water User Associations), (ii) communities and schools and (iii) individual households, in most cases smallholder farmers. The synergies in Mpanga catchment are based on a formal agreement with Iles De Paix and Broederlijk Delen. A list of the proposed activities is part of the logical framework.
