Increase of capital of the African Development Bank - To ventilate

The overarching objective of the African Development Bank Group is to spur sustainable economic development and social progress in its regional member countries, thus contributing to poverty reduction.

The Bank Group achieves his global obective by mobilizing and allocating resources for investment in regional member countries and providing policy advice and technical assistance to support development efforts. In 2000, all multilateral development institutions have agreed on a same set of objectives, called the Millenium Development Goals (MDG). They are: (i) Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger (ii) Improve maternal health (iii) Achieve universal primary education (iv) Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases (v) Promote gender equality and empower women (vi) Ensure environmental sustainability Reduce child mortality (vii) Develop a global partnership for development.

Over the years, the Bank Group has continued to pursue its institutional reforms aimed at maximizing its development effectiveness and the quality of its operations, supporting efforts by its regional member countries and building their capacity to strengthen their economies. The Bank has also consolidated its role as the continent's premier development finance institution, a knowledge and research centre and the preeminent voice for African development issues.
