General
SFERA is the FAO’s humanitarian emergency and rehabilitation fund, enabling rapid and efficient interventions in food and agriculture-related crises, in both acute and chronic emergency situations. The mechanism combines working capital, a revolving fund, and programmatic funding to support timely response and preparedness.
Results
The contribution aims to provide flexible and unearmarked funding to enable the rapid mobilization of resources for time-critical interventions, thereby safeguarding food production and food security. This is intended to maximize efficiency and prevent a further escalation of humanitarian needs, particularly during critical planting seasons.
Other
Thanks to SFERA, the FAO was able to intervene rapidly during critical crisis moments, supporting affected populations in protecting and restoring their livelihoods and strengthening their resilience. The approach—with a strong emphasis on local procurement and timely agricultural support—delivers high returns and efficient impact for every euro invested.
