General

The project strives to improve the governance, monitoring and regulation of the Tanzanian mining sector, at national, regional and local level. IPIS aims to improve the observance of human rights in the extraction of natural resources, prevent (further) harm and abuse, protect victims (particularly the most vulnerable), promote effective opportunities/mechanism for grievance and redress, enhance accountability of perpetrators, end impunity and inform better policies and regulations that facilitate and ensure all these elements. To improve the governance, monitoring and regulation of the Tanzanian mining sector at national, regional and local level.

Results

1. To fill information gaps on human rights observance and related socio-economic and operational data at artisanal and industrial mining sites in Northwest Tanzania. 2. To address the underreporting of human rights abuses and incidents in the extractive sector.
